I know IPD sells an "R" badge for like $8.00 that you stick right on....

Did the car have a different grille? Did it look lowered? what wheels did it have?

I remember seeing a few things about an R sedan (I think for europe) and it had different wheels (17, with 18 as an option) a different grille, and it was factory lowered about an inch.
