I have always touted that there are 2 kinds of people, stupid and dumb. The stupid ones make the same mistakes over and over again. The dumb ones learn from their mistakes. I consider my self a dummy :)
I found the Brickboard a few years ago when I bought a 1988 245 for my cousin. The help I got here really worked, so I vowed to read all of the posts on the 240s. I managed to read most of them. Then I got my daughter a 1995 854T and started living under the shade tree.
I am not a mechanic, never was. My tool box is quite limited, Craftsman stuff and no 1/2 inch drive which is crimping my style with my new 220.
After finding out how easy it was to replace brake pads, I moved on to other things, all simple. Because the dealers hate electrical and interior work, that is what I have focused on. Except for vacuum leaks, of course :)
I was born in Germany and adopted by a great man who is turning 90 this month. I have lived in Japan and France, used to call the South my home until I needed to get a job. The work kept me in the north where the winters are longer every year.
There is an IKEA not far from here, and yes, I went there once.
I have only "rescued" one Volvo.
BUT, I really like trying to solve your problems and helping you avoid the $ealership whenever possible.
Than you for your kind words. It is time for bed,
Klaus
