V70 rear seat stuck upright V70-XC70 2001

As we were getting ready to come back from South Dakota Tuesday I stowed the laptop under the
driver's side rear seat. Then when I went to fold the seat down, the latch on the top corner
didn't seem to disengage the seat from the mating part on the side of the car.
I have tried to get in with a screwdriver and pry it up but was not able to.
It looks like to disassemble the latch mechanism you have to be able to get to the outboard
side of the seat, which is now "against the wall".
Anybody had this problem? Any easy cure?
I plan to get into VADIS this morning for an exploded view.
Thanks for any help you can furnish!
