"Immobilizer" message...car won't start V70-XC70 01

Our new XC has 2500 miles. Twice in the past 2 weeks, the following has occurred: Unlock car with remote; turn key to start and... nothing happens!

No attempt of engine to turn over, no clicks... Nothing, except a message on the display to "check immobilizer, see manual". The manual says that only coded keys will function with the ignition, which has its own "antenna". The manual also mentions that if both ignition keys are on the same keyring, that this may interfere, and prevent the car from starting. Well, I have one key, and my wife has the other, and both keys are never together.

The first time it happened, it was with my key; the next time, yesterday, it was my wife's. After each occurrence, we got out of the car, relocked and then unlocked with the remote, and the problem disappeared. The car started immediately, and no message on the display.

Do you experts have any clues as to what the problem is? I'd hate for this to happen in an emergency.

Thanks for your help.

Sam
