1996 850 Turbo Transmission

Hello and thanks in advance.

My car is the limited edition and has appr. 150K miles.

This morning when I put into drive I immediately noticed something wrong. The car did not want to go forward. I thought maybe I accidentally put it into a low gear but that was not the case. The engine revved while the car barely moved forward and then it slammed into gear. The whole time it was in 2nd gear I heard a faint grinding noise under the car. Then right before coming to a complete stop the car bucks a few times and then stops. The whole thing start over once I decide to drive on. So I get scared and when I get to the parking deck at work I decide to back into a spot in case I need to get towed. Well, the car would not go into reverse. And then when I put it back into D it almost didn't go forward either. I kept stepping on the gas until it violently jerked forward and then slowly started to drive.

I am worried that this is a sign of badness. I have never changed or checked the transmission fluid level but have never had any transmission slippage or any other problems for that matter. Even yesterday there were no signs of transmission problems. Is the trannie shot? Thanks.
