NO ABS LIGHT ! 850

For a 1996, yes the ABS module is normally the culprit. Of course, a good Scantec scanner should have given you the codes. On some of the older 1994-5s where the module never goes bad, the axles rust and then the individual wheel sensors indicate a fault.
The ATE modules are not that expensive and worth a shot.

If you have an SRS light, you will have to bite the bullet and have Volvo scan the problem and clear the code. They could also give you the codes for the ABS at the same time. Or wait and do it after the ABS module replacement.
