If you have a pick&pull junk yard close by, pick up a dimmer switch and a backup for the light switch, both are prone to fail over the years.

You can also spray some electrical contact cleaner in the sliding dimmer switch and see if that helps at all.

When you get it all working again, put the dash lights at about 80% or less of max light. That way the bulbs will never burn out.
