Thermostat replacement V70-XC70 2004

I purchased a thermostat for my 2004 V70 from my dealer (as a preventative). When I went to install I discovered the thermostat I purchased was too large. It also became apparent that putting the old therostat back was not so easy (doesnt sit in place to allow torx bolts to be installed). Upon further reading it appears that I have to replace the entire housing as a unit. Can this housing be removed and replaced resonably easily? I put the old housing back together without the old thermostat so I could drive the car until I resolved this issue. Just looking for some feedback before I proceed. Thank you!
