Thermostat replacement V70-XC70 2004

Did you replace just the thermostat or are you saying you replaced the entire housing without removing the power steering pump? If you just replaced the thermostat, did you hold the new thermostat in place while putting the housing back together? Does the base (engine side) of the theromstat sit on top of the two raised notches in the housing or between? Did they sell you the thermostat only? Thank you!
