What's the rub? Ongoing tire saga 850 94

First, thanks to those who responded to my Falken tire message. The 94 850 T wagon I bought is currently riding on 205/55/16 BFG Comp TA VR4 tires with stock suspension/rims and there is evidence of rubbing in the wheel wells. Since 2 of the tires are pretty worn, I was planning on going with a full set of a 205/50/16 size tire that originally came on the car. I'm confused by what caused the tire rubbing in the first place. Is it the .8" height difference between the 2 tires? More flex in the taller 55 series tire? Most manufacturers info has the 2 tires with almost identical section width so I don't think that would be it.

Moving on, has anyone tried a 225/50/16 tire on stock 16x6.5 rims with stock suspension?

Thank you,

Bert
