WInter Tires Decision 850 97

I just ordered a set of Blizzacks for my 1997 850R. It will be butt ugly for the winter with the 195x60-15's on it, but from what I read here on the board, I should be able to get back and forth for the winter. My question is : is this too aggressive of a tire for Southern Michigan? We get our fair share of snow, but it typically gets cleared and you are driving on dry pavement most of the time. Is this an official snow tire? Is there a better choice for the typical mid-west winter? I can sacrifice handling for the winter, but noise and tire wear may be a problem. ANy thoughts?

Thanks for the advice.

Frank
