Fuel Pump Relay Quick Question!

So if that the case, what is stopping me from just jumping it out? The car seems to have two relays for the fuel pump. When the car is in the "off" and "acc" position, no power is supplied to the fuel pump (when it is jumped out). When I switch to "on" or "start" power is applied to the pump (still in the jumped out phase). So really, is the relay only for the 2 second phase to prime the fuel system (when you first turn the key to "on" but not starting the car) then when the car is running, remains energized? Seriously, what is the point of the relay, short of it turning it self off when switched to "on," when the car isn't running (or stalls out), It's kinda like a oil pressure switch in my mind then. I ask this cause my relay is shot, and honestly, it would be cheaper for me to add an oil pressure switch then buy a new Volvo relay (6 bucks vs 48). Always did like improving (simplifying) everything mechanical, so I can bring the 850 back to the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid).
