HELP- key will not turn in ignition lock 850 1996

Need some quick help here. Had to have the 96 855 towed today after it stranded my wife. The ignition lock cylinder will not turn at all from the off position. I tried both keys with no luck. I jiggled the wheel back and forth to release any pressure on the steering lock, no effect. It seems the lock cylinder is jammed somehow. The key can be inserted and removed without problem.

I read the repair procedure for the electrical part of the ignition switch on Bay13- but it did not seem to apply to this situation. Unless the electrical switch can jam and prevent the key from turning- does this ever happen? It seems like a need a new lock cylinder, and if so is this a DIY job, or are special tools needed. Neither Bay13 or my Haynes describe pullingthe lock cylinder.

And if it needs a new cylinder, do I have to live with 2 keys, or can it be keyed like my door locks?

Any help on this one greatly appreciated!

Dave H.
