Winter driving mode question V70-XC70 1998

When car is in DRIVE and I push the Winter button there is a light on the Winter button that comes on and I can feel the difference. When I push the Winter button again the light goes off and the car is back to normal.

What I am trying to figure out is the 3 and Low positions.

When I shift to 3 or to Low the light on the Winter button comes on with out me touching it and the light stays on even when I push the Winter button.

According to the manuel the light on the dash is suppose to come on when I have the car in 3 or Low gear and it does. But the the Winter button is not suppose to light up unless I push the button to put it Winter mode. Also the Winter mode for 3 and Low is suppose to be different than regular 3 and Low gear.

I have not had time to get back to the dealer with this yet and I am wanting to find out if the light on the Winter button is suppose to come on like it is doing or if there is a problem I need to have my dealer look at.
