Hmmm. We buy one of the best made cars around, and the igintion lock can handle the weight of our house keys? Sounds spurious to me. Click and clack the Tappet Brothers (Car Talk) indicated on a show a couple months ago that this is a known Volvo problem and they recommended, with the steering column in the lcoked position, ramming the steering wheel hard to one side. They said "you couldn't possibly break anything." Sounds like they believe this problem to be related to the steering column lock mechanism.
