Timing Belt tensioner - 1994 Volvo 850

I just replaced the timing belt on my 94 Volvo 850. However the timing belt tensioner did not have the little plastic clip (PACMAN shape) that is supposed to be present according to Bay 13. The replacement belt (mail order) did not come with one either.

What is the purpose of this piece of plastic ? If it is essential, could someone get me the part # so I can get it from a dealer.
