Hi Douglas

Your car has one those faults that make people sell them -

a fault that never turns up at the service place, and if you don't have an experienced Volvo mechanic - you will end up selling the car again.

I bought one of those Volvo's (it is always funny to find out what actually made the former owner say "enough!!!") and it turned out to be the fuel relay.

Open the hood, screw off the fusebox cover and carefully wriggle out the green fuel relay, pry the top off and use a piece of cardboard to squeeze the relay into being engaged at all times (it is off when takes out)

Try running the car for a couple of days - and if the problem is over - go out and buy a new relay for appr. 70$ (without correct functioning relay you are not safe in a crash - the hi pressure fuelpump will continue running and may spray gas to fuel a fire)

A good member of the board advised me to resolder the relay myself - there are "aging" cracks in it - and so far it has hold up, and I saved 2 hours of driving to the supplier and 70$ (the 2 hours vere the most valuable).
