Service light and Check engine light both on at almost same time. 850 1995

Well, I tried it. The little A light works, but that is it. No codes using the probe and waiting. No light if I release the button. Light only works if I push the button. I turned the key off a couple of times and then back to on with all the little lights on the dash. I even disconnected the battery and reconnected thinking that MAYBE it would re-set things. No joy. The whole thing looked a little worse for wear and the B side has no probe attached at all. Now this car also has the OBDII plug-in inside the car under the little coin holder. Would it also do the same thing for pulling codes? Where do I find a code reader for that?
