Ball Joints only can be replaced with the control arm???? 850 1997

Hello all,
I was going over my daughter's 850 sedan today and found the ball joints on both sides are loose. also the outer CV joints are split open. I checked FCP and it appears the only way to buy a ball joint is with the whole lower control arm.
Is this a big job? I'm thinking this would be a good time to wrestle the axles out as well. Any advice/shortcuts welcome.
