I have a rather loud and obnoxious tapping noise that comes from the engine compartment. It comes on when the car is warm and seems to increase it's frequency with increasing RPM's (hard to tell as the engine noise begins to drown it out). Had it to the dealer and mentioned it, they got back and informed me it was the "air pump". I have a fairly decent understanding of the workings of my car ('98 S70 T5-M) but I haven't a clue what the "air pump" is.
Is this an acceptable explanation? The Service manager informs me it is a normal noise (I plan to have him show me another car with the same attribute when I go to pick it up, but believe he'll try and tell me that since they don't have a T5-M to show me that it can't be duplicated, yadda yadda)
Since the car IS still under warranty I'd like to keep this with the dealer, but I can't believe that the car is supposed to make this noise. I had a '98 S70 GTAS before my T5 and it NEVER made this noise....
The Service Manager claims it's the updated style air pump (don't know what's so up to date about it, it taps like a mother)
Well, hoping to get input from my fellow brickboarders here, anyone have this noise now? anyone fixed this noise in the past? anyone heard this noise, ever? anyone have a fix for this noise, or something I can tell me dealer to look at?
I've got about 100 miles left on my warranty and would really like to get this resolved.
Thanks in Advance,
Scott Silverman
P.S. Anyone know anything about the difference between a SC-900 and a SC-901 and whether it's worth a couple hundred to trade....
