Gentlemen, correct me if I am wrong, but the air pump only comes on when the car is cold to speed up the warm-up process of the catalytic converter. As soon as the cat is at the operating temperature, the air pump is supposed to shut off and stay off. So, if the dealer claims the noise comes from the air pump, and the noise doesn't go away in a few minutes after a cold start, then, according to the dealer the air pump is operating erroneousely. This is my take on this.
