I need Help! I purchased a 1998 V70 w/39k miles, do I need to change the timing belt? V70-XC70

It is very clean and drives and the leather seats smell like new. The vehicle is twelve years old. Is it advisable to wait till 70k as recomended by the owners manual?

If the timing belt goes out on some vehicles the engine can go bad, others just need the timing belt to be replaced. What is the consequence if the belt goes on a i5 2.4l engine?

Thank you,

Jim

(Thank you Klause for your previous response). I have started to change all the fluids.
