new V70 - trip computer Q V70-XC70 1998

Hey, everybody.

I just picked up a 1998 V70 T5 with 135,000 miles. Owned by Volvo people and serviced by a Volvo mechanic, so it seems to be in good shape. It's our second Volvo after a 1992 940, and after taking a detour into an awesome, but not very winter-worthy 1983 Mercedes Benz 300DT.

Anyway, my main question is this:

It looks like this car has the advanced trip computer. I've got the info switch with the reset button, but the digital display only lists the time and outside temperature (in the middle of the screen). Turning the info switch or hitting the button has no effect. In the right light, I can faintly see the LCD bits for the other measurements at far left and right of the screen.

Am I wrong here? Do I not actually have the fancy computer? Could something be wrong with the LCD? the switch? a wiring harness somewhere?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

- James
