When do I give up? 850 1995

Any new developments about the car?

I'd just like to make a comment about the VW remark. And before I start, I'll tell you that I drive a TD Passat as well as an 850. Being mechanically inclined, all the maintenance on both vehicles are done in my garage. Every-time there's a problem, the internet and forums are involved. There is a huge community with a wealth of information for volvos. So instruction, knowledge and skill being easily attainable the difference comes down to cost.

VW parts are notoriously expensive in comparison to well researched Volvo parts. Don't tell anybody but I use GM parts to fix my volvo on occasion and it runs beautifully. VW stealerships like most others will take as much out of your pocket as possible. With Volvo, you have alternatives, independent certified mechanics. Not to say that VWs don't, they do, but fewer.

Most of my repair costs go into maintaining my VW. The few repairs that I've done with the volvo, I've not had to repeat yet. Not the same story for the passat.

Don't get me wrong I like the passat for what it is. (My tuner) But as a daily driver, it just does not remotely compare to the volvo.

Ultimately the choice is yours. My choice is get it fixed by an independent volvo mechanic respected by the community and you'll have a vehicle that will last.
