door handles V70-XC70 1998

Aside from cosmetic and some bulls*** aerodynamic reasons, does anybody know why the newer Volvo cars (S40, S60, S80, post-2000 V70/XC) have the "FLIP UP" door handles as opppose to the "PULL" door handles?

From a functional standpoint, the "PULL" door handles make more sense. In an emergency, a rescuer has better leverage with a "PULL" door handle. Ever wonder why Mercedes Benz and Saab have always stayed with "PULL" door handles???

Oh, I just noticed that the new V90XC has the traditional "PULL" door handles . . . but it has the trendy European style tail-lights . . . what gives???

Why do I get the feeling that Volvo is going through an identity crisis. Doesn't the S60 look like a Honda Accord??? Have you seen the radio instrumentation on the 2001 models . . . looks like something from Detroit.

And you wonder why Volvo sales are down by at least 20%.
