NO, I DIDN'T WIN. I knew from the start, there wasn't any way my base S70 could win that 260-HP coupe, but JUST FOR FUN.
I was cruising to work, when I saw this orange Type-S, with two young Chinese boys in it, cutting in and out of lanes. He was about to overtake me, when I cut into his lane. I came to a halt for a red light, with him behind me. As soon as it hits GREEN, I accelerate in "SPORT" MODE. I went back into the left lane and he stay on the right. Oh, the Volvo pull away for a while, BUT as soon as his VTEC kicks in, he got up to me in no time. However, he had a problem.
He want to get back into the left lane to make a left turn at the last minute, but he didn't want to release his "power", AND neither was I releasing my accelerator. He could step on it, and probably overtake him, no problem, bUT the second red light was less than 5 feet. He had no choice, but to ran the light { The traffic light camera caught him - He will be receiving a FINE really soon }. I received the GREEN light to make the left turn, so I made the left turn, and was about to turn into the office parking lot, when I realized he made a U-turn, so I stopped and he slow to look at me ( I look at him, and just laugh ). He then just sped away.
Later, I asked my uncle, who formally had a 2000 Acura 3.2TL ( same engine as the 3.2CL Type-S ). He told me that the reason why I was able to pull away for a those 1-2 minutes was because the VTEC isn't good for low-end torque, but as soon as the VTEC hits 5000 rpm, all of those 260-ponies came in.
So, I have a question for those of you who have T-5 out there whether you believe a stock T-5 can win a 3.2CL Type-S ( stock form, of course ) ?
