XC gas mileage V70-XC70 2001

Any comments on XCs gas consumption. The sticker says 18/22.

Was wondering why it's on the lower side... It's much lighter than

SUVs, less hp than quite a few SUVs like M320/RX300/Acura-MDX, but almost

the same fuel consumption as the others mentioned...MDX also happens to be a ULEV (claim 17/23mpg)... Any light on this matter?
