Major Tune Up - Who to believe?? 850 1997

I recently bought a new 97 850 GLT with 41K on it. I got it from my father-in-law. He told me that the major 40K tune up was done at about 38K. I called the Volvo dealer where the work was done and they have a record of the car coming in at 38K but cannot tell me what was done in the service area. My father-in-law is not the most mechanically inclined but he tells me that the bill was for about $300. I believe that
