spare keys 850 1996

Got a wierd one for someone. The keys that came with my car aren't quite thin enough to fit in my wallet. I like to carry a spare key just in case. I tried to get one made but they said that due to the way the key was cut, a thinner model couldn't be used. Toyota used to provide owners with a plastic card (like a thick credit card) with a key cut into it. has anyone heard of this or have any suggestions. I probably should have posted this on the aftermarket section, but oh well.
