You might want to check out the 700/900 FAQ on this website and go to the section on buying a used 960/90. It is not encouraging. The 96 960 is supposed to be the best year. Engine problems on the early cars.

Best bet for RWD is a 1994 or 95 940. Simple, bulletproof 4 cylinder drivetrain! Cheaper to maintain too. A well maintained 94 or 95 940 turbo is a pretty nice ride....

FWD: 95-97 850 and 98 V70. They get more complex beginning in 1999.
