Re: Emission Control Warning V70-XC70 2001

Hi Carl. Welcome to OBDII. Just about all new cars (not sure about SUVs) are required to be OBDII compliant these days. There is an OBDII specification for the gas vapor removal system that requires the system to trigger a fault if any of the following occurs:

-The gas cap is not put back on securely. (If you use a full service station this is easy to occur.)

-The car is fueled while the engine is running.

-The gas tank is overfilled. This happens when people try to 'top off' the tank by squeezing every last drop they can into the car (kind of like what you described).

All said, I'm still not sure whether or not Volvo's system is more sensitive than others. I have seen Audi, Mercedes, etc. owners complain about the same thing but I think Volvo owners have written more complaints about this here (could it be us - are we either more incompetent or bigger whiners?) Nah.

Thanks.

-rdo
