Cruise Control 850

There is a small vacuum pump attached to the underside of the battery tray. Look for a vacuum line that runs along the fender and down to the pump area.

Without going through all of the trouble of disconnecting the battery, lifting out the tray, etc., try disconnecting that vacuum line. With the throttle body cover off, clean off the end of the line and try to get some vacuum introduced. I just sucked real hard. If the throttle moves, then the switch at the brake pedal is OK.

Then it is time to check the switch above the brake pedal. Upside down and painful to reach, it breaks easily and cannot be repaired, just replaced.

Before buying a new switch, take the car on the road above 40mph. Push and hold on the end of the turn signal stalk. If after 5 or so seconds, the cruise control doesn't take over the gas pedal, it is probably the switch.

I am assuming that the vacuum line didn't come off somewhere, of course.

My 1998 needed to have the throttle housing, where the cable attaches, lubed. The CC could not maintain speed except on a flat road.
