Diagnosing Air-pump 850 1996

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how I can figure out if my air pump is going/gone.

I'm still having problems with it stalling cold/ just warmed. I haven't noticed it stalling out after its ran for some time. I cleaned the MAF, the idle-air control valve, throttle body. The connector for the vacuum line to the air pump check valve was cracked, and i believe, leaky. Replaced that, but the problem's still there. Lately I've been hearing some almost clunky noises coming from under the battery while the car's warming up/ just warmed up. A couple of times its died right as the temp. gauge gets to fully warmed. Car has 222,000 miles, no history of this, and no codes showing at the moment. (It had small evap leak before I replaced that connection, reset code and hasn't come on in 1000 miles)

I really don't want to take it in, so any suggestions would be great.
