Rear-end: low pitched cyclic groan at low speed V70-XC70 2000

There is a low, cyclic low-pitched groan when the car is driven a low speed < 10 to 20 mph or coasting to a stop). I can produce the same sound by rocking the car. This sound does not seem to occur after the car is parked for a several hours. It occurs again if I drive the car 5 miles or so. Could this be a problem with suspension or rear axles or AWD differential?

I also have a weak impression that the car's response on turns is not quite as postive on quick turns at speeds of 30 to 60 miles per hour.

I would appreciate learning the experience of other XC owners who have experienced a similiar response of their car. My car has 18,000 miles on it.
