In the Hotseat V70-XC70 2001

I've noticed that although my wife loves the seat heater in both our S60T5 and the V70T5
(Both 2001), when driving the V70T5 it gets uncomfortably hot in just a few blocks.
Then a few weeks back I noticed a black mark on the left side of the driver's seat.

At first it looked like a stripe from a magic marker but then it began to fray.
Has anyone had a seat heater do this?
Any possible repair for the heating element?
I think I also need a repair to either the seat wiring or the computer because sometimes
the seat is paralyzed. This is particularly annoying when my wife drives the car because
I can't reach the pedals if the seat is set for her long (beautiful) legs.
