Power steering failure? 850 1995

Thanks for the replies. What steps should I take to troubleshoot this problem? If my lower shaft u-joint was bad, would I be able to freely turn the wheels while up off the ground?
Unfortunately there were no doom noises or fluid loss. How do I check the ps pump besides looking for "frothing" in the fluid? If I do notice frothing then is that a dead giveaway? How difficult is it to replace the ps pump? Haynes says to have the pulley and reservoir transferred to it by a dealer as special tools are required!
Is there a way for me to check the strut bearings without removal?
