clicking noise from dash-any ideas? V70-XC70 1998

Just recently purchased 98 V70GLT with 160k. Everything looks to be in very good condition and it has been well maintained with genuine parts. Here's the question...I hear clicking from the center dash. clicking is a random beat, not speed dependent, happens somtimes when cold, sometimes when warm, it happens when moving and when parked with engine at idle. The clicking goes away all by itself and then reappears It sounds the loudest when I put my ear to the center vents. ECC on or off makes no difference. Fan on or off makes no difference. If I turn the radio up, I can't hear it. Any ideas?could it be a relay...are there relays behind the center of the dash.. or should I just pop a ZZ Top CD in and crank it up.
