door locked! V70-XC70 1998

1998 V70 AWD wagon

Left rear door locked. Lock button won't pull up, even when trying to jiggle handle to help it. Any advice on trying to get the inner door panel off with the door closed so that I can access the internal workings to fix the problem? These doors seal so well that trying to get the panel to pop free is really starting to frustrate me! With the way that the lock button won't pull up I am really trying hard to not get someone with a slim jim who may do further damage to whatever is binding up the lever system.
