v50 vs 850 n/a engine V50

Are the engines on newer v50s sold in the US basically the same as those put in 850s? i.e., the 2.4 L I5 (168 hp)? Do they have an accessible PCV valve instead of a flame trap?

I am thinking of springing for a 2006-2009 v50 (non-turbo) with under 30K on it (hopefully for under $20K). Soon I will be driving about 600 miles per week, 90 percent highway at about 80mph (interstate 5 in Northern CA). Need something safe, reliable, comfy, and fuel-efficient (in that order). Supposedly these things get 30+ highway when non-turbo and non-AWD, which is way better than I'll get with a v70. Thought about an s60 but I like the wagon. Looking for something I won't have to put a lot of maintenance into for a few years. The v50 may be just the ticket (over a Forester, CRV, RAV4, Accord, etc.).

Cheers,
Paul
