My vehicle (1998 Volvo V70 T5 Auto) has a strange door locking problem.

Whenever I go to start it I hear this strange sound that comes from the behind the door panel of the front passenger door. It sounds like a spring being sprung. On this door I can make the door locks go up and down by using the key or door switch but no matter if the door lock is up or down I can always open the door.

The rear passenger door can only be locked if I physically push the lock down. The key or door switch will not operate the lock. Once the lock is physically pushed down it is securely locked.
