car runs like poo--gas mileage down 30-50% suddenly 850

Help,

I'm perplexed. My 1994 850 turbo has suddenly started running bad. It has trouble shifting sometimes, won't climb hills (and there aren't even big ones here in Florida), and the gas mileage has suddenly gone from 21 in city driving to 16. When shifting and trying to go up a mild hill it will fail to upshift and the mileage on the computer will drop from 17 to 10 to 6. Even giving it more gas doesn't work. Pushing on the accelerator doesn't even raise the rpm's unless I floor it. Then it only goes up to 3000 rpm's. If I let up on the gas to sort of let the engine recover for about 10 seconds it will eventually shift and accelerate but the gas mileage remains low.

In the last 30 days I have replaced the radiator, and the fuel filter. I changed the transmission fluid in response to these problems but it seems these problems really reared their heads after the fuel filter replacement. I'm thinking I want to put the old one back on but that doesn't seem too bright. Anybody please help, I've become more of a slave to the oil companies.
