Actually the AWD system and most of the drivetrain on the new XC is a carryover from the previous generation V70. The new XC is based on the S80 series vehicles which haven't had the best track record. Volvo is slow to address problems and get fixes into production. Look at the front end problems in the S80's, still a problem after a couple of years of production. Look at the turn signal issue on the S/V 70's. Affected all production years of those vehicles. Yes there is much to enjoy about these cars but the cost and service issues definetly will be more expensive and frequent than say a Camry.
