Re: FOGlights ALL

In a real fog or a driving snowstorm (not the display in the picture - which showed fog light acting alone), the advantages of fog lights include giving a light pattern low to the road. Their usefulness becomes limited when the fog light pattern is obliterated by the glare from the headlights, even on low beam. I understand that regulations do not permit the car manufacturer to operate the fog lights without the headlights in North America where day time running lights are mandatory. So in conditions for which the fog lights are designed, they are not helpful and are otherwise cosmetic. I recall using fog lights beneficially in Europe with the headlights off. For US and Canadian use, is there something I am missing that would negate my veiws above?
