Pollen Filter??? 850 1993

I noticed on one of the 850 resource web pages they showed a picture of a air pollen filter under the plastic cover in front of the windsheild. So, out of curiosity I unscrewed the cover on my 93 850 and noticed there is a duct that seems to be shaped just right for an air filter to be installed at the top. I'm assuming this was an option on 850's? Does anyone have one? Can I just go to the Volvo dealer, buy one and put it in? Does it work well? Where can I get one cheaper?

Also, I'm assuming this is a filter only for fresh air entering the vehicle and not used when running the heat/AC in "recirculating" mode?
