Warmed up, cut out, and now won't start S60 2003

Hi all...

2003 S60 T5, 79,xxx miles

While trying to leave work for the day I ran into a bit of some trouble. It started up just fine, and as always I let it sit and idle until the temperature needle begins moving and the engine quiets to its warm idle speed. As the fast idle lowered I noticed it began running rough and the tach needle fluctuated. The needle jumped back to fast idle where it momentarily smoothed then tried to settle again, at which point it cut out. I tried to restart, the starter turns and turns, but no joy.

The car's in a parking garage right now and should be safe for the night until I can get a tow in the morning. Fuel level is good. Any suggestions on other things I can check in the meantime?

She's been extremely reliable and this is the first time she's failed me, so it's quite a bit disconcerting. :-/

Thanks!

- Dan
