Aftermarket radio questions 850 95

I would like to put a single play cd player in my 95 850..The one I have chosen is a single DIN unit, thus taking up only 1/2 the space of the present factory radio....The install shop says they would use a blanking plate for the remainder of the space...oh how ugly...what has anyone else done? I thought it would be ideal to have a "pocket" under the radio...Is this available? if so, where? Thanks....Alan...

PS...anyone have any aftermarket radio suggestions? The purchase has not been made yet. I DO NOT want the cd changer...just a convienient single play at my arms reach...
