Re: Which tires should I get? V70-XC70 1998

Actually, my dual exhaust did not cost me anything (well, I paid one of my techs $35 to take out the original single and install this).

Ted, who used to post here, made it for our owner who had (at the time) a Silver Metallic 1998 V70 R. Them our owner wanted to try the IPD dual exhaust so that one (the custom-made) was just sitting up in the Parts Department). So, when I got my '98 R, I asked if I can use it and they gave to me for $0!

Ted, made this for a couple of our customers back in 1998 and 1999 and (I think) we charged them $350 (installed).

Now, have I seen any significant performance improvements? Initially, no especially at low speeds. But I had the feeling that at higher speeds (I also installed a K&N air filter) my car felt quicker getting from a certain speed (40mph or more) to a higher speed, like 90mph or more. I got to test that last week when a BMW 328i butted right in front of me as I was entering a bypass (about 1/4 mile) before entering a major interstate. I did not like the way he almost clipped me (and I saw that he was pretty young to own such a car, most likely mommy's or daddy's car) so I hit the gas and got right behind him. Now, before entering the highway, there was a sharp bend and he took it at about 60mph, his car was REALLY leaning! I did the same, never let off the gas pedal and I think that if it weren;t for the AWD I would have been in trouble. As the road straightened (another 1/4 mile and we would be entering the highway) I got on the left lane and really floored it, he did the same in the right lane, for a few painfully long seconds we were both accelerating almost equally to about 90mph and then my car felt like it could a big invisibel push and went very quickly to 110mph, naturally I went right past him and he was right behind me since I merged to the right because the I-95 was coming right up, we entered the highway with me ticking right at 120 to 125mph and he was falling slowly behind me, then I let him pass me as "it went long enough".

I never felt my car accelerating that quickly from 40 to 50mph to speeds in excees of 90mph, I just attribute it to the combination of the K&N and the slightly less restrictive exhaust. But I am not 100% sure. I was definitely proud of how my "little" 2.3L 5-pot outperformed the 6-pot 2.8L Krautburner. And mine was a...wagon, nonetheless!

So, I am sure that I have gained some but, afterall, it cost me only...$35!
