smoke out the dipstick means probably pcv replacement (maybe you can just AutoRX it ($30), or $160+ about 2-5 hours if you do it yourself, 6-700 if you let the dealer..) Oil on side of engine worries me a bit, since the timing belt was done not that long ago. You said all dealer maintenance so I'd assume they'd replace the seals when they did it.

$2000 isn't a bad price for a 96, especially with those miles, but I don't know how much more you're going to have to pony up within 6 months because of what it needs now..
