AC compressor & flashing lights 850 1994

1994 850 turbo When starting the car the lights on the electronic climate control panel (AC & heat) the lights will flash on and off several times (rec light switch & ac on off light switch0. The heat works fine but now that summer is here the AC does not work. I noticed when the AC is on the compressor does not engage. I tried the "bread fix" but the compressor still does not engage in. The 1994 has an OBD II diagnostic on the right side of the engine compartment to retrieve codes for the ABS and emissions. Can one of the sockets retrieve a code for the AC? Do I have two different problems flashing lights and AC compressor replacement?
