A7 will ONLY reset your SERVICE light using yet a different proceedure.

To check fuel codes (only), A2 is the socket you must use. If it's turbo A2 will also give you ignition codes BUT if it's non-turbulated, then A6 gives you ignition codes ('93-'94 only in the US).
